Michael "Mike" Duane Douglass, age 75 of Durand, passed away at his residence on Saturday April 21, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel. Pastor John Walworth will be officiating with burial to follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:30 -8:00 p.m.
Mike was born on December 6, 1936 in Flint, the son of Bennett Campbell and Lavada Pearl (Barnes) Douglass. He attended Central High School in Flint, graduating in 1955. Mike married Mary Irene Bell on February 9, 1957 and together would have 4 daughters. Mary passed away on December 29, 1969. Mike later married Carole Lee Spurgeon in Durand on November 21, 1979.
Mr. Douglass retired from General Motors after 32 years where he was an Office Supervisor at the V8 Plant in Flint. He was a member of the Flint Traffic Club and was a Chairman/Co-Chairman of Bond Issues for the Durand Schools. Mike had served 3 terms on the Durand City Council and was a member of the Durand Rotary Club.
He had enjoyed participating in basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf, track and especially hunting partridge and deer. One of his greatest joys was continuing his love of sports by attending the many sporting events of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his classic cars and the company of his 2 cats, Thom and Calee.
Mr. Douglass is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carole; 4 daughters: Lynne (Brian) Wooton, Lee (Craig) Bowman, Karen (Jeff) Semple, Nancy (Jeff) Loren all of Durand; 9 grandchildren: Brianne (Chip) Watt, Ian Semple, Brent Douglass Wooton, Elizabeth Horcha, Bryce Wooton, Zachary Semple, Nicholas Loren, Quinn Bowman, Natalie Loren; 3 great grandchildren: Jack, Noah and Nathan Watt; mother, Pearl Douglass; 2 sisters-in-law: Peggy Douglass and Cathy Parks.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Bennett Campbell Douglass and brother, Bennett “Benny” Barnes Douglass.
